It's the little things.

by Elizabeth Van Allen

This Thanksgiving I am taking the time to remember and be thankful for the little things that really make life (and teaching) worth all of the time and energy I invest each day.
Finding other anonymous customers at
5 guys who enjoy crayons as much as I do.

The privilege of being able to dress like
an absolute fool for work and own it.
Apparently this art teacher's effectiveness
relates directly to my level of ridiculousness.

The color wheel clock that I found online.
Side note: last week a girl 'discovered'
this
clock on the wall, looked around for few
seconds and said: "why are there so many
color wheels in the art room?" I'm just happy
she remembered what they're called!

The mural painted by
volunteers in the hallway
outside the art room
Food service workers
with a sense of whimsy
Having wonderful fur babies
who spoon when they snuggle

Good friends who, when finding that your phone was knocked off the wall and can't be reattached, say "I can fix that, where's your duct tape?" 45 minutes later, a masterpiece was born.  I have used this phone in class as an example of site-specific installation art, and to answer your question, it works perfectly to this day.
Thanks, Ginna!
The sweet little boy who asked me a few semi-personal
questions and then presented me with a family portrait
What little things are you thankful for?
